I brought two cakes to the potluck. Here is the recipe for one. I'll post the other when I dig out the card.

Golden Glow Cake
this was Mau's favorite cake.

1 cup butter
5 cups flour sifted
3 cups sugar
6 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 cups milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs

Preheat oven to 375º.
Put butter in bowl. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into bowl. Add 1-1/3 cup milk and vanilla. Mix until dry ingredients are moistened. Then beat 2 minutes at medium speed in electric mixer or 300 strokes by hand.
Add remaining milk and eggs. Blend and beat for 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping bowl and beater thoroughly.
Divide batter between 2 pans (13 x 9 x 2) lined on bottom with parchment. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes.
Cool slightly, turn out and peel off paper.
